The Directorate of Governance, Legal Affairs, and Archives (DitTHK) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through its Archives Division, conducted an Initial Assessment of Archival Management across all work units within the university as part of its efforts to improve the quality of archival administration at USU.
The activity was carried out from June 8 to June 25, 2026, through visits to each work unit to obtain an initial overview of archival management practices, archival facilities and infrastructure, as well as the implementation of archival policies within each unit. This assessment serves as the first step in mapping archival management across the university and will provide the foundation for developing more effective archival guidance and development strategies.
Through this initiative, the Directorate of Governance, Legal Affairs, and Archives aims to obtain comprehensive information regarding the level of preparedness and the specific needs of each work unit in managing archives. The findings will serve as evaluation material and form the basis for designing future programs focused on guidance, mentoring, and capacity building in archival management throughout Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The activity also reflects the Directorate's commitment to promoting an orderly, effective, accountable, and legally compliant archival management system. Effective records management is expected to support the availability of authentic, complete, and reliable information as an integral component of good university governance.
Going forward, the Directorate of Governance, Legal Affairs, and Archives will continue to strengthen coordination and collaboration with all work units to further optimize archival management at Universitas Sumatera Utara. These efforts are expected to support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through professional, sustainable, and well-managed archival governance.
