The Directorate of Governance, Legal Affairs, and Archives of Universitas Sumatera Utara conducted an Archival Mentorship program at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Sumatera Utara, on Monday, 11 May 2026. The activity was part of efforts to improve orderly, systematic, and standardized archival management within the university environment.

The mentorship program aimed to provide guidance and strengthen understanding regarding dynamic records management, the organization of active and inactive archives, and the implementation of effective archival governance within the faculty.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology USU, Prof. Vivi Gusrini Rahmadani Pohan, who was accompanied by the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Psychology USU, Prof. Raras Sutatminingsih.

In her remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology expressed appreciation for the implementation of the archival mentorship activity, which is expected to enhance awareness and competency in archival management within the Faculty of Psychology. Proper archival management was considered an important component in supporting administration, accountability, and services in higher education institutions.

Opening remarks were also delivered by the Director of the Directorate of Governance, Legal Affairs, and Archives USU, Dr. Windha. In her speech, she explained that the mentorship program was a strategic initiative from the Directorate to facilitate practical knowledge transfer.

“I do not want colleagues to merely memorize regulations, but to understand best practices in reducing the risk of archive damage and accelerating digital transformation,” she stated.

The mentorship activities continued with an overview presentation on USU Archives, followed by material on active records management within USU. Participants also joined interactive sharing and discussion sessions regarding challenges and experiences in archival management within their respective work units.

In addition to presentations, the activity also included hands-on archival management practice sessions aimed at providing participants with direct understanding of archive organization and management procedures according to applicable archival standards.

As the closing session, the Directorate of Governance, Legal Affairs, and Archives conducted a mentorship spot-check within the Faculty of Psychology USU to observe the implementation of archival management and provide evaluation and recommendations regarding archival governance in the work unit.

Through this activity, it is hoped that the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Sumatera Utara can further optimize orderly, effective, and sustainable archival governance as part of supporting administrative transformation and strengthening university governance.
