Visit of Vice Rector I, University Secretary, and Director of USU Postgraduate School for Discussion Regarding Past Student Academic Archives and Archival Guidance and Supervision at USU Postgraduate School

ARSIP USU: The USU Archive Office held a discussion regarding past student academic archives as well as archival guidance and supervision at the USU Postgraduate School on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the USU Archive Office. The event was led by the Head of the USU Archive Office, Dr. Aisyah, SE, M.Si, accompanied by: USU Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A, and University Secretary, Prof. Dr. dr.

Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R.

Also present were the Director of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Postgraduate School: Prof. Ir. T. Sabrina, M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D., Deputy Director I of USU SPS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Evawany Yunita Aritonang M.Si., and Deputy Director II of USU SPS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hamidah Harahap M.Sc.

This activity aims to support the management of vital student and academic archives, archival order, digital transformation, and the strengthening of the nation's collective memory within Universitas Sumatera Utara.

In the welcoming remarks of Vice Rector I, he stated that the USU Archive Office is an office where the historical memory of the 72-year-old institution is stored, providing benefits for education not only for Universitas Sumatera Utara but also for the community. Under the leadership of Dr. Aisyah, SE, MSi, we see extraordinary progress, achievements clearly based on all guidelines followed in national and international archiving schemes. The relationship with the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia shows that the USU Archive Office is on the right track, even if there are things needed for development.

In his welcoming remarks, the University Secretary also conveyed that he faced many challenges when collecting past archives, but with all efforts, we tried to search everywhere, even in warehouses, because archives are very important to know the past history of the University as a stepping stone for moving forward into the future.

The Head of the USU Archive Office also added, "The USU Archive Office is integrated with the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia. We have also participated in training, both technical and leadership, to equip us all with how to manage archives professionally, both manual procedures and digitally. One example is training in digital and electronic archives and archival authentication training. This greatly helps us distinguish between original and fake documents, and we can professionally manage digital archives. Even though it's digital now, archiving isn't done haphazardly but must still comply with rules and professionalism, even in digital form," he said.

The activity continued with an office tour to the USU Archive Gallery, New Media Storage Room, and Static Archive Room of the USU Archive Office.
