USU Archives Office Participates in the 80th Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony at Universitas Sumatera Utara

ARSIP USU – The Archives Office of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), driven by a strong sense of patriotism, took part in the 80th Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony held at the courtyard of the USU Rectorate Building on Sunday, August 17, 2025. The ceremony was led by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., who served as the Ceremony Inspector. The commemoration was attended by the entire USU academic community, including faculty leaders, administrative staff, and lecturers. The USU Archives Office sent its representatives to participate solemnly in the ceremony as a form of respect and appreciation for the struggles of Indonesia’s national heroes.

The event featured the raising of the Red and White flag by the USU Student Regiment (Menwa), greeted respectfully by all participants. This historic moment was followed by the reading of the Presidential Decree on the conferment of the Satyalancana Karya Satya Medal of Service, awarded to employees with 10, 20, and 30 years of service.

The announcement of the awards, based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, was delivered by the Acting Head of the USU Bureau of Human Resources, Dr. Abdillah Arif Nasution, S.E., M.Si., Ak., C.A., QGIA.

USU Secretary, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G., Subsp.F.E.R., conveyed the significance of the 80th Independence Day theme for the university. He emphasized that the spirit of “United and Sovereign, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia” aligns with USU’s commitment to strengthening collaboration among the academic community in creating an inclusive, innovative, and competitive academic environment. According to him, this spirit supports efforts to improve the quality of education, research, and community service that bring tangible benefits to society.

Prof. Fidel further highlighted that USU’s concrete contribution to celebrating independence is realized through various forms of service and community engagement — including educational and health services through USU Hospital, free medical programs for nearby communities, skills development initiatives, and small business empowerment programs.

The ceremony concluded with the announcement of the winners of various competitions held throughout August, ranging from sports events to social media management contests.

The USU Archives Office also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national and educational activities, particularly in managing and preserving important archival documents that reflect Indonesia’s historical journey toward independence.

The ceremony proceeded smoothly and solemnly, concluding with several symbolic activities that strengthened the participants’ sense of nationalism. The USU Archives Office hopes that this moment will further enhance the spirit of collaboration and patriotism within the university community.
