Archival Mentorship at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Sumatera Utara

This activity was carried out to raise awareness among all elements of the academic community at Universitas Sumatera Utara about the importance of managing, preserving, and maintaining archives. Through this initiative, better archival governance can be achieved, ensuring the university’s archival memory is preserved.

ARSIP USU: The Universitas Sumatera Utara Archives Office conducted an Archival Mentorship at the Faculty of Public Health and Study Programs within Universitas Sumatera Utara on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in the auditorium of the Faculty of Public Health, USU. This activity aimed to enhance awareness among all elements of the academic community at Universitas Sumatera Utara regarding the importance of managing, safeguarding, and maintaining archives to achieve better archival governance and preserve the university’s archival memory.

The event was welcomed by Vice Dean I, Dr. Umi Salmah, S.K.M., M.Kes., and attended by 40 participants, including representatives from the Dean's Office, Heads of Subdivisions, and all administrative staff of the Faculty of Public Health, USU.

 

The event began with an opening speech by Vice Dean I, Dr. Umi Salmah, S.K.M., M.Kes., who expressed gratitude to the Head of the USU Archives Office and the team for their presence in providing archival mentorship and guiding all administrative staff of the Faculty of Public Health, USU.

This was followed by a speech and an overview of the USU Archives Office by Mrs. Aisyah, SE., M.Si., Head of the USU Archives Office, who emphasized the importance of archives and presented an introduction to the role and functions of the USU Archives Office.

 

Raisa Dwi Safitri, S.S.I. delivered a session on dynamic records management, including hands-on training for all administrative staff on properly storing dynamic and static archives according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and disposing of expired archives. The session concluded with a discussion and Q&A session with the archival managers of the Faculty of Public Health, USU.

The mentorship concluded with the USU Archives Office team conducting an on-site assessment of the archival conditions in the Faculty of Medicine’s Archive Room, Universitas Sumatera Utara.
