Archive Management Archival Classification

Background

Archival Classification

Archival classification is one of the mandatory instruments that must be established by archives creators in managing the archival affairs of an institution, as mandated by Article 40, Paragraph (4) of Law Number 43 of 2009 on Archives and Article 32, Paragraph (2) of Government Regulation Number 28 of 2012 on the Implementation of Law Number 43 of 2009. These provisions stipulate that, to support the effective and efficient management of active archives, archives creators must establish official correspondence procedures, an archival classification scheme, an archival retention schedule, as well as a security and access classification system for archives.

The archival classification scheme must be developed based on the functions and duties of the archives creator. This ensures that the filing, storage, retrieval, and disposal of archives are carried out in accordance with effective and efficient archives management mechanisms.
